SXSW 2012: Saturday

10 04 2012

(All photos courtesy of Kara Schectman Photography)

At this point, I’m pretty much running off of breakfast tacos and Tito’s vodka. And whatever free chips they’re handing out. Today on the agenda was the Rachel Ray day party, Filter Showdown at Cedar Street, Hype Hotel, Rachel Ray Greenhouse, etc. Protip: There’s no time to stop and eat at festival or you’ll lose precious minutes. Always keep moving. And drinking.

SXSW 2012: Friday

10 04 2012

(Of Monsters and Men were the highlight of Friday. All photos courtesy of Kara Schectman Photography)

Friday I played host to the 2nd annual Local Edge at SXSW unoffish day party at Doc’s (more on that in a separate post). But that wasn’t the only event on my Friday agenda. I hit up the Spin day party, the Filter Showdown at Cedar Street party, and the Windish Agency showcase. Can’t stop. Won’t stop.

This truly is my favorite time of the year. It’s like Christmas for hipsters. Hopefully you followed my hijinx on Twitter (@themark23) throughout the fest for my ridiculous observations. My Thursday at SXSW consisted of:

CD Review: Quaker City Night Hawks

1 07 2011

This article originally appeared in the Dallas Observer.

Rock ‘n’ roll is not what it used to be. Ft. Worth’s Calhoun dropped by The Local Edge for a little acoustic action. Their latest record, Heavy Sugar (Idol), is easily their best to date and one of the best albums I’ve heard this year.

Air Review: First Listen

2 05 2011

We’ve long been fans of Dallas’ Air Review and their brand of anthemic rock-pop. They’ve spent most of the time since their fantastic debut LP, Landmarks, in the recording studio. One of the most ambitious bands in the area are now readying a new EP for release in the Fall, and they’re previewing it online.
