A Gathering: The Dallas Arts Community Reflects on 30 Years of AIDS.

30 11 2011

Next Tuesday evening at the Winspear Opera House a special event will bring together some of Dallas’ finest artists to remember and reflect on the AIDS pandemic.  PSD was kindly invited to the show’s first rehearsal and we wanted to share with you some of the shots from behind the scenes of this amazing show.

The rehearsal took place on the 9th floor rehearsal hall in the Wyly Theatre.

A Gathering is bringing together the AT&T Performing Arts Center, Booker T. Washington High School of the Performing and Visual Arts, Bruce Wood Dance Project, CharlieUniformTango, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Dallas Opera, Dallas Theater Center, Dallas Wind Symphony, SMU Meadows School of the Arts, Texas Ballet Theater, TITAS and Turtle Creek Chorale for this once in a lifetime community event.  The rehearsal space and the adjoining terrace really are captivating and showcase a spectacular view of our city.

I was able to check out the terrace a bit before the rehearsal actually started.

The Terrace has a really comfortable turf floor and the “green” feel of the place is immediately evident.

But its that drastic point of view of the area that really is breathtaking.

And then looking towards the south side.

Executive Director of TITAS Charles Santos is one of the lead producers on the event.

A Gathering will showcase some of the finest voices in Dallas.

And it was the singers who opened the rehearsal.

Its an impressive range of Dallas’ vocal talents.

And will act as a introduction to some of Dallas’ rising talents, like Rachel.

As the wonderful Elaine Liner points out over in the DO,

“In the rehearsal hall Monday evening, 16-year-old Booker T. student Rachel Dupard performed a breathtaking a cappella “We Shall Overcome.” She’ll join Lee, Breckenridge, opera singer John Holiday and the Chorale in what TITAS producer Charles Santos is calling a “diva sing off” of the tune “Lean on Me,” which closes the first half of the evening.”

There was a strong showing of Mustangs at the rehearsal too.

Even a slew of dancers that were there.

It was quite an amazing showcase of the entertaining and bold show that will happen next Tuesday!

On top of the talented singers.

And numerous dance groups that will be represented, like Bruce Wood’s Dance Project (I didn’t want to bother Bruce so I went all paparazzi with his picture!)

The acting community will also be highlighted.  Especially the lovely folks at the Dallas Theater Center.

Actually Joe is one of the lead producers for the show.

It’ll be a great group of Dallas acting talent reading quotes, performing scenes from plays and much more.  The team will travel from the lovely confines of the Wyly.

To the elegant stages of the Winspear.

From Press Release:

All of the arts organizations and artists involved are donating their time. 100% of the proceeds will go to four AIDS service organizations: AIDS Arms, AIDS Services of Dallas, AIDS Interfaith Network and Resource Center Dallas.
