11 – N O V E M B E R

1 11 2011

Its simple, I was born in November and I was named after the 11th of the 12 tribes of Israel.  Add that this year is the MAGICAL 11-11-11!!!  To highlight this awesome month how about a quick peak at some of the wonderful events that will be in the DFW area.

Today marks the reigning tap king’s return to Dallas.  A Classical Encounter with Savion Glover Presented by: Performing Arts Fort Worth, is held at the lovely Bass Hall in funky town.  November is also the beginning of Movember!  Now lets check in with those fellas at the Texas Theatre.

Awwww yeah!! A little time for the lover, but DON’T forget that November is still Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)!  In fact November 2nd is All Souls Day for my Catholic friends.  So if you can’t find a lover go dig up one! Yes I just endorsed necrophilia, thanks TEXAS THEATRE!!!

Judith Jamison will be at the Winspear Opera House this Thursday November 3rd!  We’ll check back with our lovely friends at the Winspear/ATT PAC a few times this month!

Going a little out of the DFW area (by 2 hours or so), to the town of Abilene, Tx, this time of year has become an annual event for PSD.  The 24 Frames Per Second film festival run out of the historic Paramount Theater is one of the real highlights of the short film scene.  Barry Smoot has cultivated a wonderful 2 day festival that showcases short films from around the world.  November 4th and 5th in Abilene = Quality times!  “Remember Remember the 5th of November”, Saturday is also Guy Fawkes Night.

The 5th annual Lone Star International Film Festival takes place November 9th-13th and this year’s Stephen Bruton award recipient is none other then the Red Headed Stranger!!!

The LSIFF shows off the amazing downtown style of Fort Worth and specifically Sundance Square.  Its a festival that bridges the gap of music and film like none other then that directional festival in Austin.  This year’s closing night concert has a hell of awesome lineup.  This all leads us to 11-11-11!!!!!!!!!!! (yeah that’s 11 !’s).

The Texas Theatre is having a very special 35mm shown on 11-11-11 (its a bit of a swipe at the national release of Immortals – at least I’m saying it is since this is way cooler!!).

That’s right – Clash of the Titans at the Texas Theatre on 11-11-11.

Vincent van Gogh and Jackson Pollock: Changing What Art Is on Monday, November 14, 7:30 p.m. at the Horchow Auditorium in the Dallas Museum of Art.  Can’t go wrong with Pollock and Van Gogh.  Now we venture on over to the DMA next door neighbor and one of Dallas’ true treasures.

The Nasher Sculpture Center is holding a special event on November 15th, NasherSalon: Kristin Chenoweth.

And then to end a very special birthday week for lil ol’ me, its John Lithgow!!!

Check out our previous post about this amazing evening.  But just for fun’s sake here’s another wonderful moment from the awesome career of John Lithgow.

So brilliant!  Back to the wonderful Winspear for, Pilobolus .

Radically innovative and always intriguing, Pilobolus is one of the world’s most beloved dance illusionist companies—and a TITAS audience favorite Internationally recognized for athletic and inventive creations, Pilobolus continues to blaze a path with its jawdropping imagery and unique approach to artistic collaboration. In addition to the raves of audiences, the troupe has earned a host of prestigious awards, including the Berlin Critic’s Prize, the Scotsman Award for performances at the Edinburgh Festival, an Emmy Award for outstanding achievement in cultural programming and the Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for lifetime achievement in choreography. You’ll be thrilled by the stunning blend of acrobatic athleticism, wit, humor and sensuality that makes for a hugely entertaining evening.

Ok just check this awesomeness out.

Enjoy your month!  Before you know it, it’ll be December and you’ll then be excited to see this guy.
