Ya’Ke takes home the Best Narrative Short from the 2010 Austin Film Festival.

Award-winning Director Ya’Ke Smith discusses former students, his award winning short film Katrina’s Son, and his feature film he is in the process of making.  The video interview with Ya’Ke is after the jump.

UT Arlington Professor and film-maker Ya’Ke Smith has garnered praise and taken home numerous awards for his tremendously  moving short films.  I sat down with Ya’Ke at his UTA office and discussed how former students are also winning awards, how  Katrina’s Son is still gaining momentum, and his latest endeavor the feature length film WOLF he is set to direct.  Video shot and edited by PSD’S George Wada.  Enjoy.

Julie’s film “8” is part of the upcoming DALLAS IFF short program 1 and airs the first weekend of the festival.

Ya’Ke’s short Katrina’s Son is at the Our Image Film and Arts Festival later this week and then at DALLAS IFF as part of the Community Showcase section.

You can check out one of Ya’ke’s wonderful short films Hope’s War.

Here is more information on his feature film debut, WOLF, and how you can help him make this movie possible.
