You can do a lot of things in two days.  You can travel a short distance, you can read a book, you can lose 5 pounds (or so they say), you can have a crazy party, and you can accomplish a lot.

Want one more example? During two full days of battle, the small force led by King Leonidas I of Sparta blocked the only road by which the massive Persian army could pass.  Yeah kick ass aint it.  Well can you make a film.  Write, direct it, and edited in 48 hours?  Well to answer that question two DC filmmakers, Mark Ruppert and Liz Langston, made a competition to see if you could.  That was 2001.

The USA Film Festival – our dear friends – welcomed the 48 hour film project and screened the three sections of films that were made.  They filmed over the April 23-25 weekend.  I was able to meet with one of those film teams.  Holly Rice Directed, Produced, and Edited a film written by Ken Jones (pronounced “ho-nez”).  Well here’s what happened (after a few drinks and free movie passes courtesy of DIFF’s amazing Lisa Stabler!!).

Holly you know what the first question is?

Director Holly Rice.

I knew I had a great interview when Holly gave me a really open and raw response to my question of what in film was appealing.

Ok So Holly why Ken “Ho-Nez” Jones?

Hey Ken….

Holly explains about her cast.

Ok guys what’s the first thing that happens?

Ok.  I’ll play along…RIGHT…

Then what?

And how about Ken’s perspective?

I’ll let myself ask the next one…

So what do you need?

Mean While…

O yeah there are some rules or something right?

So what is your schedule like during this process?

Jessica Miller,  Chris Moon, Holly Rice and Sean Phillip Maxwell.

How was the USA Film Festival experience?

So that gets back to the original question – Can you make a film in two days?  I hope this declaration answers your question.

48 hours is enough time to become a filmmaker.

Thank you so much for the excellent article. I had a great time during the interview. I think I would have been more self conscious if I had known you were adding the actual sound from the recording, but what a great way to use a multimedia platform. Great job!
